The IRS set up a tool for people who do not normally file a tax return called Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here. The tool was meant to be used only by people who did not have a tax year 2019 tax filing requirement, and it served to get the direct deposit information of these people to the IRS in order to provide them the Economic Impact Payment or Stimulus Payment electronically and faster.
If you sent the IRS your bank information using the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here and now just found out that you were required to file a 2019 tax return, you now must amend your submission on the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool using the Form 1040-X Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return. This is because when you used the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here a tax return was filed for you though the IRS e-file system meeting the requirements of the IRS revenue procedure 2020-28.
The amendment can be completed by downloading the Form 1040-X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return. The IRS does not accept tax return amendments electronically. Once you complete the Form 1040-X you will need to print it, sign it, and mail it to the IRS.
At Sabalier Law, I offer the service to file Form 1040-X tax return amendment for taxpayers who used the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here tool but now need to file a 2019 tax return.
